What to expect
The true summit of Gross Spitzkoppe needs multi-pitch climbing, but the false summit at 1,650 m can be reached by scrambling the Gully route. We start at dawn, so most of the work is done before the desert heats up.
The route is steep and varied: smearing on smooth slabs, granite chimneys, perched chockstones and exposed ramps. Your guide shows you where to place your hands and feet, and ropes up the short exposed sections with a handline or short rope.
From the top the Pontok Towers and Kleine Spitzkoppe sit below you and the plains run out to the horizon. The descent follows the same line, slowly and carefully, and the whole outing takes five to six hours.
Brooklyn and John-Isaac grew up scrambling these gullies, and our guides know the line well and when conditions are right for it.

Good to know
On the day
- Hiking gear is available separately on request.
- April to October is the best season: 18–26 °C days and cool rock.
- In summer we start at dawn and follow the shade.
- Every outing carries a first-aid kit; climbers should hold travel insurance that covers rescue.

- Rates are per person per day, with a minimum of 2 guests. Group discounts on request.
- Meals and drinks, accommodation, transport are not included.
- Booking a day at Spitzkoppe without one of our packages adds a guide drive-out fee of N$3,500 per booking.
- 50% deposit secures your booking; the balance is due 7 days before departure.
- The meeting point and start time are confirmed when you book.
